Courage
WE CARE DEEPLY ABOUT DOING THE RIGHT THING, EVEN WHEN IT IS HARD. We have conviction, confidence, and initiative, and are clear up front that we will do the right thing – for the environment, our clients, and each other. Trust WE ALWAYS ACT WITH HONESTY AND INTEGRITY. We are open, honest, and ethical, and collaborate with our clients and each other. Hei Hāpai ō WE VIEW OUR ROLE AS KAIMAHI (WORKERS) SUPPORTING IWI AND HAPŪ ASPIRATIONS. This comes from a whakataukī (proverb) ‘Ko te amorangi ki mua, ko te hāpai ō ki muri.’ It means ‘The leaders in front, the food bearers behind,’ and without both roles everything would fail. We keep this in mind when we work with iwi, hapū, and all our other clients. Creativity SINCE EVERY PROJECT IS DIFFERENT, WE LOOK FOR THE BEST WAY TO DO IT. We are flexible and responsive to challenges and look for better ways to do things than the status quo. Insight WE NAVIGATE COMPLEX SITUATIONS AND UNDERSTAND WHAT OUR CLIENTS NEED. We’re good at big picture context, and emotional and situational awareness helps us identify the best path for our clients. |
Kaupapa Māori Strategy
We support our staff to explore and expand our understanding of te ao Māori. We have an internal Kaupapa Māori Strategy to help us make better decisions for our clients who are Māori and meet their aspirations when it comes to environmental management from a Māori perspective.
The strategy helps our whole team form better relationships We wanted to embed mātauranga Māori into our team culture because it's fundamental to the mahi (work) we do. We mainly wanted to support our Kaupapa Taiao Specialists' mahi, but the strategy is for our entire team. It helps us create better relationships with our Māori whānau in mana-enhancing ways, and it helps us exercise one of our company uaratanga (values): Hei hāpai ō – where we support iwi and hapū to meet their aspirations. This is how we like to work When we decided to change our branding to a Māori name, we wanted to walk the talk and really understand the Māori world view to support the mahi we do for tangata whenua and tangata moana in and around the environment. It’s important to us as a team of 15 that we learn about tikanga (customs) and kawa (marae protocol) when it comes to interacting with iwi and hapū, for example when attending pōwhiri (welcoming ceremony) or introducing ourselves at hui (meeting). |
