Vanessa specialises in rural and urban subdivision and land-use processes, and works extensively with communities, iwi, and large organisations on collaborative decision making projects. She is of Kahungunu ki Wairoa descent and is passionate about developing freshwater and biodiversity policy. Vanessa helped establish the South Wairarapa Biodiversity Group, and organised community native fish rescues when Wairarapa rivers inexplicably dried up in the 2015 and 2016 summers.

Vanessa has been practicing as a planner since 2008 and joined Perception Planning in 2018. She has a Bachelor of Laws from Victoria University. She practiced law for a large firm in Wellington before moving home to start a family, run a sheep and beef farm, and ultimately change her career path. Vanessa has significant experience with:
